Fostec P12 Outline
IMPORTANCE OF PHOSPHOR
Phosphorus is a vitally important element. Approximately 80% of phosphorus in the body is found in the skeleton, where in times of shortage it is mobilized together with calcium to meet the existing need. It is important that the level of phosphorus is kept to standard in order to prevent severe negative effects of phosphorus shortage, such as slower growth, weight loss, and low reproduction.
PHOSPHOR IN ANIMAL FEED
South African soils and pastures are, in general, deficient in available phosphate. Research has shown that phosphate supplementation to animals grazing on phosphate-deficient pastures is essential to achieve good growth as well as good reproduction. An important source for phosphorus in the diet of farm animals is feed phosphates, which supply the difference between the required nutrients and those available in the grazing.
FOSTEC P12
FOSTEC P12, available in orange coloured 50kg bags, is a phosphate trace mineral concentrate which contains the essential trace minerals in the correct ratio to phosphorus.
MAIN BENEFITS OF FOSTEC P12
1. CALCIUM PHOSPHORUS RATIO 1,1:1
Grazing in Southern Africa has very high levels of calcium, with Ca:P ratios of 14:1 occurring in certain areas. It is therefore important to keep the calcium intake of farm animals to a minimum in order not to distort the Ca:P ratio any further. FOSTEC P12 is the only feed phosphate available in South Africa that has a Ca:P ratio of 1,1:1.
2. LOWEST FLUORINE LEVELS
Fluorine can be classified as one of the potentially toxic minerals in livestock nutrition. By far the most important and widespread cause of fluorosis in South Africa is contaminated underground water from boreholes. This contamination is often caused by gypsum which is applied to saline soils in the low rainfall areas of the country. It is therefore of utmost importance to reduce any additional sources of fluorine intake. FOSTEC P12 has the lowest levels of fluorine of all available feed phosphates.
3. COMPETITIVELY PRICED
Not only are the product characteristics of FOSTEC P12 outstanding. It also is competitively priced in order to enable our clients to maintain livestock production at maximum profit levels.
